Dundee fight to keep Johnny Russell at Tannadice
Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara has spoken of his desire to keep Johnny Russell at Tannadice despite interest from Celtic and Italy. Serie A side Catania have reportedly made three bids for Russell, the latest being in the region of £800,000. Russell, 23, has also attracted interest from Neil Lennon, but McNamara hopes the striker will extend the 12 months left on his current deal.
“There will be speculation abuot him because he’s a good player,” said McNamara. We’ll have that for the next few months. He’s going into the last year of his contract, so there are a lot of things to consider. Ideally, he’ll sign a new contact and I can work with him.” (The Sun)
Dorin Goian knocks back Steaua interest

Hide AdDorin Goian has rebuffed interest from former club Steaua Bucharest - in favour of returning to Rangers. Goian, who has one year left on his Ibrox contract, has spent the last year at Serie B side Spezia. But the Romanian international, who is due to return to Glasgow this summer, is keen to return to Ibrox to see out the remaining 12 months of his contact.
He said: “I have not discussed a move to Steaua with anyone. I’ll have to get back to Glasgow because I have on year left of my contract with Rangers and I’m looking forward to that.” (Scotsman)
Nicky Clark on Rangers’ radar
Rangers are chasing Queen of the South striker Nicky Clark, according to reports. The 21-year-old has helped his side to the Second Division title and helped secure the Ramsdens Cup with a 35-goal haul. Clark’s father, Sandy, a former Rangers player, may strengthen the Ibrox club’s chances of landing the Doonhamers’ star striker, formerly of Aberdeen and Peterhead. (Daily Mail)
James McFadden could still feature for Scotland - Strachan
Scotland manager Gordon Strachan says James McFadden could still have an international future. The Motherwell striker, who signed a short-term deal with the club this year after a prolonged period of inactivity and injury, has brought guile and craft to the Steelmen’s play this season. Strachan, who cited his own recall to the Scotland team aged 32 after a period of not being selected, gave McFadden hope that he could yet return to the Scotland squad.
He said: “If Faddy gets back to full fitness, he’s probably got another three years left in him because he’s had three years of inactivity.” (Daily Express)
Stuart McCall ‘not going to Sheffield United’
Motherwell manager Staurt McCall insists he will not leave Motherwell for League One side Sheffield United. THe promotion-chasing side are thought to be keen to reunite with McCall, who spent two seasons at Bramall Lane as a player and was also assistant to Neil Warnock while the Englishman was a manager there.
But McCall, who will lead Motherwell to their second season in Europe on the bounce, says he has not spoken to the United hierarchy.
He said: “Apart from anything else, I’ve just signed a new two-year contract. I know Chris Morgan, United’s caretaker manager, well. If he can take them up, to the Championship, he’d be entitled to get the job full-time.” (Scotsman)
