Serie A side Catania have reportedly made three bids for Russell, the latest being in the region of £800,000. Russell, 23, has also attracted interest from Neil Lennon, but McNamara hopes the striker will extend the 12 months left on his current deal.

“There will be speculation abuot him because he’s a good player,” said McNamara. We’ll have that for the next few months. He’s going into the last year of his contract, so there are a lot of things to consider. Ideally, he’ll sign a new contact and I can work with him.” (The Sun)

James McFadden could still feature for Scotland - Strachan

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan says James McFadden could still have an international future. The Motherwell striker, who signed a short-term deal with the club this year after a prolonged period of inactivity and injury, has brought guile and craft to the Steelmen’s play this season. Strachan, who cited his own recall to the Scotland team aged 32 after a period of not being selected, gave McFadden hope that he could yet return to the Scotland squad.

He said: “If Faddy gets back to full fitness, he’s probably got another three years left in him because he’s had three years of inactivity.” (Daily Express)

THe promotion-chasing side are thought to be keen to reunite with McCall, who spent two seasons at Bramall Lane as a player and was also assistant to Neil Warnock while the Englishman was a manager there.

But McCall, who will lead Motherwell to their second season in Europe on the bounce, says he has not spoken to the United hierarchy.

He said: “Apart from anything else, I’ve just signed a new two-year contract. I know Chris Morgan, United’s caretaker manager, well. If he can take them up, to the Championship, he’d be entitled to get the job full-time.” (Scotsman)
