Charles Green: Whyte battle could last a decade

Former Rangers chief executive Charles Green has claimed that it may take 10 years for Rangers to get rid of Craig Whyte.

The former Rangers owner is threatening to take the club to court over his claim that he still has rights over Ibrox assets.

An internal investigation conducted by law firm Pinsent Mason absolved Green of any links to Whyte during the takeover of the club last summer, but Green said that the report’s findings may not be sufficient for the club to shake off the “delusional” Whyte.

“We might be fighting Whyte for 10 years,” Green said. “It’s mind blowing. But the reality is Rangers is secure and it’s moving forward.

“I have nothing to be guilty of. What I did over a period of 12 months at Rangers was something to be proud of.” (Daily Record)

Craig Brown hits out at Kris Commons Las Vegas trip

Former Scotland manager Craig Brown has criticised Kris Commons for going on holiday to Las Vegas just days after announcing his retirement from the national team.

Commons tweeted a picture from a first-class cabin as he jetted off across the Atlantic with team-mates Joe Ledley, Gary Hooper and Adam Matthews.

But Brown said Commons’ actions sent a “terrible” message about how players felt about representing Scotland.

“I think that’s very disappointing,” said Brown. “I don’t want to be critical of Commons but what I hear is he’s in Las Vegas. That doesn’t sent out a good, enthusiastic message.  “If a player said he had family reasons for not playing and was then in Las Vegas, I would say that’s terrible.” (The Scotsman)

Celtic to lose out to Aston Villa on Aleksander Tonev signing

Celtic look to have lost out to Aston Villa for the signature of Lech Poznan winger Aleksander Tonev as the Polish side accepted a £2.6 million bid for the Midlands outfit. Villa manager Paul Lambert is still to sit down with Tonev to agree personal terms, but reports say that Tonev is desperate to play in England’s top flight. (The Sun)

Allan McGregor could play for top-six Premiership team, says Goram

Andy Goram has claimed that Allan McGregor is good enough to play for a top-six team in the Premiership as he urged him to opt out of a move to top-flight newcomers Hull City. Ex-Rangers legend Goram said that McGregor, also a former Ibrox player, should set his sights higher.

“Allan has had his standards over the years so I would be surprised if he goes to Hull this summer. No disrespect to them but there’s no doubt in my mind he’s a top six keeper in England. I thought Allan was happy in Turkey but maybe things have changed there.”

He added: “Surely a big club down south couldn’t turn their back on Allan. He’s as good as anyone I’ve seen.” (Daily Record)
