Rangers strike deal to repay £1.5m loan with season-ticket cash

RANGERS have agreed that their £1.5 million loan from Sandy Easdale and Laxey Partners could be repaid with money raised from the sale of season tickets for 2014-15.

The move, which is likely to further damage relations between the Ibrox board and a large proportion of the club’s support, has been published in documents lodged with Registers of Scotland.

Should Rangers use the season-ticket money in this way, the Ibrox board will fail one of former director Dave King’s conditions for supporters to set. The South Africa-based tycoon urged fans to withhold their money unless the club could give satisfactory answers to a series of questions.

Additionally, the use of season-ticket cash at Ibrox is a particularly sensitive issue after former owner Craig Whyte funded his takeover with money loaned to him by Ticketus. Whyte sold off four years of season tickets to the London-based firm. (The Scotsman)

Green: I was driven out of Rangers but I deserved more money

FORMER Rangers chief Charles Green claims he deserved to be paid double for the work he did at Ibrox.

The Yorkshire businessman pocketed £933,000 including a severance payment and bonus for the 10-month period he was employed by the club, and made more money after selling his shares to Sandy Easdale and Laxey Partners.

But the 60-year-old - who was initially on the same salary as manager Ally McCoist until former chairman Malcolm Murray halved it - told Sky Sports yesterday: “For the work I did at Rangers I should have had double.

“I would have liked to have stayed at Rangers but I was driven out of that club.” (The Scotsman)

Aberdeen sell out League Cup final ticket allocation

ABERDEEN have confirmed that their entire 40,000 allocation for the League Cup final later this month.

The club released a statement confirming that an additional allocation of 3,000 restricted view seats at Parkhead had been snapped up, after the initial 37,000 seats had sold out.

There will now be no general sale this coming Monday for Dons fans.

Aberdeen take on Inverness CT on Sunday March 16th at Parkhead, kick-off 2.30pm.

Izaguirre wants new Celtic deal

CELTIC’S Honduran left-back Emilio Izaguirre has said he wants to see out his career with the Hoops.

The 27-year-old is under contract until next year, and has been linked with a move to England. But the left-back told the Daily Record: “I’d rather play and fight for titles. What good is going to England to fight for a mid-table place?

“If Celtic ask me to sign for them for many more years I’ve no problem with that. I never want to leave them because they have treated me very well and I am grateful.

“Winning trophies and having medals in my house is better than all the gold in the world.” (Daily Record)

Celtic sign young Hamilton ‘keeper

CELTIC have beaten Liverpool and Everton to the signing of 13-year-old Hamilton Accies goalie Josh Rae.

Rae became the youngest player to turn out for Accies’ Under-20 side midweek, when he played the last six minutes of a match against Partick Thistle, and was due to travel to Merseyside for a trial with Brendan Rogers’ side - but chose to sign for boyhood heroes Celtic.

Hamilton Academy director Allan Maitland told the Evening Times: “His family have decided his future lies with Celtic.

“I am disappointed to lose another player, but I recognise that, as a Celtic supporter, when Celtic come calling, it is hard to resist. My argument was that he has developed better with us since leaving Celtic two years ago, but he will be signing for Celtic next week after he attends a Scotland trial.”

Rae has attracted a lot of interest in recent months, and travelled to Spain for a trial with Atletico Madrid last year, after impressing for Hamilton’s youth teams. (Evening Times)

Hibs drum ban beats me, says Stuart McCall

MOTHERWELL boss Stuart McCall has hit out at Hibernian after they banned ‘Well fans from bringing a snare drum to Easter Road.

A small section of the Motherwell support regularly take the instrument to matches to drum up an atmosphere - but Hibs chiefs have said that the drum is too loud.

McCall said: “It’s very strange and quite ridiculous really. At a time when we are trying to attract more fans to games it’s bizarre.

“I know Hibs have a drummer. Is he going to be allowed in and our drummer not? Is our drummer louder than their drummer?

And he bemoaned the decision by Hibs, claiming it would take away from the atmosphere: “At a time when we are trying to encourage fans to go and create a hit of atmosphere it makes no sense.

“Hibs have a big stadium and it will probably only be half full anyway.”

A club spokesman said: “Let’s nail this straight away. Hibernian have not banned the use of drums.

“We have banned the fans from using the snare drum because we received numerous complaints at the last match because that particular drum was too noisy.” (Daily Record)
