Jackie angry at injury

Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara has unleashed his fury after Gary Mackay-Steven tore his hamstring while training with the Scotland squad, and no one from the national side told him.

The lack of communication from Gordon Strachan or any of his staff meant that Mackay-Steven then travelled with the Scots to Serbia instead of returning to Tannadice for treatment.

McNamara said: “I’m really disappointed with the way it’s been handled by the national team because we haven’t had any correspondence at all.

“For me, Gary shouldn’t have travelled to Serbia because he got injured on Sunday. He should have come back to us. But we had no communication to tell us he’d been injured in the first place, and that’s something I’m really angry about.” (Sunday Post)

Brown eyes Barrowman

Dundee boss John Brown is hoping to swoop for axed Dunfermline striker Andy Barrowman after deciding that his squad needs more of a threat up front.

Brown said: “I’ve made an offer to Barrowman to come until the end of the season but he has other clubs interested so we’ll have to wait and see.” (Sunday Mail)

Fenlon failure fears

Pat Fenlon feels his first full season in control of Hibs will be a failure unless he can push the club into the top six of the SPL.

Hibs’s top-six hopes took a blow yesterday with the 2-1 loss to Inverness, but Fenlon hasn’t given up yet.

“If we don’t do it then I’ll be very disappointed,” he said.

“We’ve got one game left so we’ve got to give it our all and see if we can go to Celtic Park - obviously a difficult venue - and win and hope the results go for us.”

Brown leaves on a high

Departing Aberdeen boss Craig Brown was thrilled to leave with his final game being a win, after Niall McGinn hammered home a pair of goals to sink Hearts.

The win marks Brown’s last game as manager before handing over to Derek McInnes, and he said it was a joy to leave with a win under his belt.

I’m not an emotional guy but it was nice to walk down the touchline at the end and be applauded. The support has been fantastic to me since I have been here and I’m grateful to them.

Higdon wants to stay

Michael Higdon is open to staying at Motherwell after he revealed that he will be holding talks with the club.

Englishman Higdon played a big part in yesterday’s 3-0 win over Dundee, and says fans may not have seen the last of him.

“I’m very happy at Motherwell,” he said. “There is no problem at all, I’m hoping to stay.

“Talks haven’t started but that will take care of itself. I’m in no rush.” (The Sun)
