Nacho Novo hits out at Ally McCoist’s ‘lies’

Greenock Morton striker Nacho Novo has accused Ally McCoist of lying to him about a potential deal to bring the Spaniard back to Ibrox. Novo, who signed a short term deal with Allan Moore’s Championship side, said he was “disappointed” with McCoist’s behaviour.

He said: “It was always being talked about that something might happen at Rangers, using the media to say he would talk with me and it did not happen. I just don’t have time for that anymore. If it is not happening it is not happening. I just wish Rangers and their fans good luck.”

He added: “I have not spoken to Ally. I don’t have anymore time for Ally. I’m just looking forward to giving everything I’ve got for Morton.” (The Sun)

Rangers director Ian Hart quits amid McCoist oust plot allegations

Rangers director Ian Hart quit the club board yesterday amid mounting speculation that he was the man responsible for attempting to oust Ally McCoist from his job. It is reported that Hart began his campaign to sack McCoist after Rangers’ loss against Forfar in the League Cup in August, but it is now thought that his post-match rant at former chief executive Charles Green may have also playeded a part. Hart had a close alliance with Charles Green, and brought the Yorkshireman back for an ill-fated second spell at Rangers as a consultant. (Dailyn Mail, The Sun)

Berti Vogts tricked into believing Rooney had Scottish grandmother

Former Scotland manager was tricked into believing Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney had Scottish ancestry, it has been reported. Vogts yesterday revealed he had called Rooney to gauge his interest in playing for Scotland, but it has been claimed that Rooney has no Scottish grandmother, the pretext on which Vogts had made the call to the England forward. A traning ground prank is believed to have been behind Vogts’ belief. (Daily Record)

Andy Walker: Cash in on Samaras Barca deal

Andy Walker has said that Celtic should sell Georgios Samaras if Barcelona follow through in their rumoured interest in the Greek international. Samaras is supposedly on a shortlist of strikers drawn up by Tata Martino, and Andy Walker has urged Celtic to cash in if the rumours turn out to be true.

“I am surprised Samaras has been linked with such a big club, althougt he has played really well for Celtic in Europe. I don’t know if he is the type of player Barcelona would be interested in, but I think Celtic are very much in the business of doing business.” (The Sun)

Barry Ferguson joins calls for Dave King return

Former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson has joined calls backing Dave King’s return to Ibrox as chairman. Chief executive Craig Mather has been in talks with the South Africa-based businessman over coming back to the club, and Ferguson, writing in the Daily Record, believes that King could restore “class” to the club after a prolonged period of turmoll at the club.

Dismissing his tax battles, Ferguson said: “What concerns me is that he is a Rangers man who wants to sort out the mess that has been created in the boardroom and who is willing to invest a small fortune to make the club stable.”

He added: “He lost £20 million and yet he’s still prepared to dig deep and do what is right for the club. I’ll take a man like that any as Rangers chairman.”
