Norwich target Neil Lennon as Hughton under pressure

NORWICH manager Chris Hughton looks to be on borrowed time at the club after chief executive David McNally revealed they were looking into candidates to replace him - with Neil Lennon rumoured to be high on the list.

Norwich sit just one point above the relegation zone in the Premiership, and McNally, in an unusual step, talked up the possibility of reviewing the managerial position at the club.

He said: “You have to be aware of the market and it would be almost delinquent of the club if for any reason your manager left. That could be because your manager wants to go, as Paul Lambert did, or if results are not good enough you have to be aware of who is out there to help.” (Daily Record)

Gordon Durie credits McCoist for Rangers morale

GORDON Durie has credited Rangers manager Ally McCoist with keeping the morale of the playing staff as high as possible throughout some of the darkest days in the history of the club.

The under-20s coach at Ibrox, Durie believes that in the circumstances it would be understandable were McCoist to be downhearted at times. Instead, he believes the boss has provided exemplary leadership.

“I think what the manager has done in the last two years has been fantastic,” Durie said yesterday of his former team-mate. “He has kept the place ticking over. He has had a smile on his face most of the time. He has kept everyone at the training ground and at the club as upbeat as he can. I think he has done a great job.” (Scotsman)

Inverness angry at League Cup final ticket allocation

Inverness have criticised the SPFL’s ticket allocation for their Scottish League Cup final against Aberdeen next month at Parkhead.

Aberdeen published a ticket plan for the final, to be held on March 16, showing that Dons fans have been given 30,000 tickets spanningg the North Stand, Jock Stein Stand and part of the Main Stand.

Inverness’s allocation of 10,000 tickets has been split between a section in the Main Stand and a part of the Lisbon Lions Stand.

Inverness fans chief David Balfour said: “What you are doin g is giving the majority of the stadium to Aberdeen, then you are diluting our support by scattering it around Parkhead. It’s like they don’t want us to have a voice.” (The Sun)

Quiet life makes job tougher for Fraser Forster

Former Celtic goalkeeper Paul Latchford says that Fraser Forster’s relatively untruobled life between the sticks at Parkhead actually makes his job more difficult. Latchford, a former Celtic No 1, said that the degree of concentration required to keep a clean sheet for a team like Celtic means that it makes Forster’s performances all the more impressive.

“No, it’s harder to wait,” said Latchford. “The hardest part of playing in goals for Celtic is that sometimes you’re not involved, because you have to concentrate the whole time and it’s harder to concentrate when the action is in the other half of the field. You have to find ways of keeping yourself alert.

“You can disappear through a whole game, and you might only be called on for a couple of seconds’ work. You might be called on to make one save all day, and it’s difficult. But it doesn’t matter what league you are playing in, you are going to be busy at different times and a keeper has always got to be there and he’s got to be ready.” (Scotsman)

Pat Fenlon lined up for Linfield move

Former Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon looks set for a return to football with Linfield after Tommy Wright pledged his future to St Johnstone.

Wright is understood to have been the Belfast’s club’s first choice to replace Dave Jeffrey.

But Wright has said he plans to stay at his boyhood club, giving Fenlon a clear run to take over the hotseat at Linfield.

Dundee United striker Warren Feeney and Glenn Ferguson are also thought to be in the frame for the post. (The Sun)
