Former Celtic striker Jorge Cadete says he is living on benefits, former Rangers director Dave King in investment call and Peterborough up bid for St Johnstone’s Stevie May.

Former Celtic star Jorge Cadete broke

Ex-Parkhead striker Jorge Cadete is living off benefits and staying with his parents despite earning around £3m from his career which also included stints at Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and Celta Vigo.

The Portuguese striker blamed two divorces and a number of bad investments for his predicament.

He said: “The moment you stop playing, things change. Agents forget to call you. You always hear players say ‘I’ve got loads of friends in football’.

It’s a lie. When you finish nobody wants to know you.”

Cadete scored 32 goals in 38 games for Celtic in the 1996/97 season but left for Benfica following a fall out over wages with then owner Fergus McCann. (Sun)

Dave King says Rangers must match Celtic

Former Rangers director Dave King says Rangers should be investing in their squad and not cutting costs if they are to match Celtic when, as expected, they are promoted back into the top flight of Scottish football.

King said there were stakeholders who were looking to invest in the Ibrox club, that would allow investment in the squad, however they were being discouraged from doing so by the set up of the current board. (Herald)

Sunderland consider move for Georgios Samaras

Gus Poyet is reported to be on the verge of making a £1m bid for Celtic striker Georgios Samaras who is out of contract at the end of the season and has yet to sign another contract. (Express)

Barry Ferguson wants Kris Boyd reunion

Interim Blackpool manager Barry Ferguson has informed the club of a list of players he believes will turn the club around with Kilmarnock’s Kris Boyd top of the list. The former Rangers captain is also reported to be interested in Alan Hutton and former Motherwell winger Jim O’Brien. (Sun)

Filip Djuric unlikely to move to Celtic

The Serbian international midfielder’s agent says the player is content at Benfica and is not wanting to move. Celtic have had the 21 year-old watched on two occasions following reports that he was unsettled.

The Serb has struggled to hold down a first team place but says he is committed to establishing himself at the Portuguese club. (Scotsman)

St Johnstone face battle to hold onto May

Peterborough United have submitted a £500k bid for St Johnstone forward Stevie May having failed in two previous attempts to land Scotland’s top goal scorer. The midlands side have come back with an improved offer which includes a sell-on clause that could potentially net the Perth side a total of £1m. (Mail)

Jordan Rhodes denies any rift with Scotland boss Strachan

The Blackburn striker says there is no rift between him and Gordon Strachan following the Scotland manager’s comments that he was a player, who despite his goal scoring talents, did not fit his system of play.

Lee Griffiths told to forget Celtic move

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett has told former Hibs star Lee Griffiths that he will not be moving to Celtic as he is a player the club is not looking to sell. Griffiths recently said it would be “an honour” to play for the Scottish champions however Wolves say the player has shown no signs of being unsettled and has not submitted a transfer request. • Kallum Higginbotham will be developing a reputation as an overhead kick specialist after his wonderful goal for Partick Thistle against Kilmarnock . Whilst at Motherwell the Englishman scored an exquisite goal for Motherwell last season which drew parallels with Wayne Rooney’s famous goal against Manchester City.

• Arguably the in-form team of 2014 so far has been Ross County. A handful of signings in the transfer window have seen the Staggies claim 10 points from a possible 12 in January. Many argue that the catalyst has been the loan signing of Filip Kiss from Cardiff City. The Slovakian has scored four goals in two appearances, none better than this delightful curling effort from 30 yards against Dundee United on Saturday. County won the match 3-0.

• Another Premier League signing who has been attracting attention is Newcastle United’s Adam Campbell. Campbell has scored twice for St MIrren since joining the Buddies on loan, including this strike in their 3-2 win over Hibernian at Easter Road.

• Inverness’ secured a fantastic victory against Aberdeen with this terrific goal from Danny Williams . His strike crashes off the crossbar and past Jamie Langfield to end the Dons’ four-game winning streak.

• Kris Commons’ fine form continued for Celtic as they recorded their tenth consecutive victory in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday. The Hoops’ 3-0 win over Motherwell at Celtic Park maintained their unbeaten run in the league, and was also their ninth consecutive clean sheet. The last player to score against Celtic in the Premiership was Niall McGinn for Aberdeen in November.

FIGHT - The game of the week came from Perth, as St Johnstone were held to a 3-3 draw against Hearts. The Saints were 3-1 thanks to a Stevie May hat-trick with five minutes to go, but Hearts scored twice in the dying minutes in an incredible comeback. The match had 6 goals, 3 red cards and 2 penalties, as well as bust-up at the end .

OWN GOAL - It wasn’t a great return to Celtic Park for Stephen McManus. The former Celtic captain scored this spectacular own-goal against his former club.
