Deila plays down Marseille Guidetti rumour

RONNY Deila has played down reports that Marseille could try to tempt John Guidetti to France with a bumper deal in the summer by saying: “There is a lot in the newspaper that is not true. I don’t know, it’s rumours.”

Deila added that he hoped Guidetti would stay at Celtic, saying: “He is still young and hopefully he will want to stay at Celtic.”

Stokes ‘still has part to play at Celtic’

ANTHONY Stokes still has a part to play at Celtic despite missing out on the victory over Hamilton, Ronny Deila has claimed.

The Norwegian insisted that Stokes was left out of the squad to face Hamilton for football reasons, adding: “I’m always after development and Anthony has things that he has to improve and work on. He’s very motivated to do that. We have a very strong squad and it’s very tough to play now.”

But Cardiff City, who were linked with the Irishman in January, could revive their interest despite Deila’s insistence that Stokes has a future at Celtic.

Malonga aiming to fire Hibs back to Premiership

HIBERNIAN striker Dominique Malonga scored a double to help dispose of Dumbarton at the weekend, taking him to the top of the Hibernian scorers’ chart.

And the Congolese striker is aiming to fire Hibs back into Scottish football’s top flight after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Malonga said: “If I finish top scorer that is good, but the ultimate plan is just to get back to the Premiership. If I can help by scoring goals, it is better, but for the fans and for the people, we must go up.”

Malonga also hailed strike partner Franck Dja Djedje, who scored the opener for Alan Stubbs’ men. (The Scotsman)

Robinson faces task to hang on to Gers No 1 spot

LEE Robinson might have displaced Steve Simonsen as first choice Rangers goalie, but with Cammy Bell on the comeback trail, the former Raith Rovers ‘keeper knows he has a task to hold on to the gloves.

Robinson started for just the second time this season against Hibernian at Ibrox, and held onto the No 1 spot for the victory away to Raith Rovers.

He said: “The gaffer has said it’s my jersey to hold on to now and I hope that is the case and I hope they are happy with how I have been playing.

“It will be difficult to keep hold of the jersey but if I do well I will be fine.” (The Scotsman)

Kenny McLean issues warning to Celtic

ABERDEEN midfielder Kenny McLean has issued a warning to Celtic, saying he ‘doesn’t see why [Aberdeen] can’t beat them’ in the next league match.

McLean, who moved to the Dons from St Mirren in the last transfer window, said: “We are scoring goals and defending well. We have the quality to beat anyone and there is a real winning mentality.”

The midfielder, who helped Aberdeen to a 2-0 win over old club St Mirren added: “I still know a lot of the boys at St Mirren and I hope they can get out of [their bad patch].” (The Scotsman)
