John Greig set for Ibrox return

DAVE King has revealed Rangers legend John Greig will be the guest of honour at Ibrox on Tuesday night as the new board take the club back to the future.

Asked if Greig would be there by their sides on Tuesday, King said: “I would say it’s a definite possibility.

“There is no living individual who represents more what we’ve said we’re trying to do – take the club forward by going back to the value system.

“I can’t think of anyone who, standing with us in the directors’ box on Tuesday, will represent what we’re trying to achieve more than John.” (Sunday Mail)

David Weir linked with Rangers hotseat

Davie Weir could be set for a sensational return to Rangers as part of a new-look management team at Ibrox.

The Gers legend is currently no.2 at English side Brentford. Both Weir and Bees manager Mark Warburton will leave Griffin Park in the summer and both have now been linked with roles at Ibrox. (Sun)

Ronny Deila: ‘John Guidetti could still stay at Celtic’

Celtic manager Ronny Deila has said that John Guidetti was misunderstood when a Dutch newspaper quoted him as saying he wants to return to Feyenoord “as soon as possible”.

The Swede scored 20 goals in 23 matches during a loan spell at Feyenoord in the 2011-12 season. His contract expires with parent club Manchester City at the end of the season.

“When I heard what he was meant to have said, I thought, ‘that’s not a good message to put out’,” Deila told The Herald.

“But I spoke to him and he was upset. He told me that’s not what he said. The journalist from Holland called him and asked him about Feyenoord. John has a good relationship with the club and said that he’d like to go back there and play one day. He said ‘you never know what will happen’ but that was reported as John saying he wanted to go there at once.

“I spoke to John and he told me he is very happy to stay at Celtic. I still believe it is possible he will be here next season. He needs a home and that home should be Celtic.” (Sportsmole.co.uk)

Peter Lawell says current Scots TV deal costs Celtic

PETER Lawwell has revealed he would gladly have no TV deal if Celtic were freed up to play all their matches at 3pm on a Saturday.

The Parkhead club only earn £2million a year from the current deal with Sky and BT Sport.

But television schedules demand the club must play live league games on Friday nights and with early kick-offs on Sundays.

Lawwell says the Hoops would earn MORE from not being part of the agreement.

Instead he expects crowds would soar with gates opening at the same time every weekend.

The chief executive said: “We would like to play our games every Saturday at 3pm and forget live television.

“People talk about enhancing the match-day experience. At 3pm on a Saturday, we’d get more people coming to our games and that money would far outweigh what we get from the TV deal.” (Various)

Crystal Palace set to bid for Virgil van Dijk

The Mirror are reporting that Crystal Palace are set to smash their record transfer fee this summer, by shelling out £10 million for Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Eagles chief scout Tim Coe has apparently been to watch the Dutch U21 international on a number of occasions this season, and has been impressed with what he has seen; leading the club to weigh up whether or not to splash out a big sum to secure his services once the current campaign draws to a close. Dundee United taking each Celtic game as it comes

ALL the treble talk swirling around Dundee United’s hosting of Celtic today is simply bogus in the eyes of Darren Jackson. The Tannadice coach accepts an “incredible” turn of events lies behind it. But this has nothing to do with Celtic’s capacity to snare all available silverware in the coming months.

“I was asked the other day how we will prepare for these three games. We won’t,” Jackson says. “We will just be preparing for the one in front of us; a cup tie that gives us the chance to move within a game of a third straight domestic cup final. We can’t think about games to come after against Celtic, even if we play them in a cup final in a week. It is a quirk to have this run, but that is how it is. We just have to embrace it and really look forward to it. There are more than a few teams that would love to be in our position.” (Scotsman)

Ian Baraclough: We were robbed

Motherwell manager Ian Baraclough was left frustrated after his side drew 1-1 with 10-man Kilmarnock at Fir Park.

Baraclough felt his side were denied a penalty early on when Marvin Johnson went down in the area, after appearing to have been tripped by Kilmarnock keeper Craig Samson, but referee John Beaton decided to book the Motherwell winger for simulation.

Baraclough said: “I’ve just spoken to the assessor and he said that he saw that there was contact made.

“So I don’t quite understand why we’ve not received a penalty and why Marvin’s been booked for simulation. (Sky Sports)
