Celtic set to snap up Javier Aquino

Aquino, 24, came off the bench in Mexico’s 2-1 defeat to the Netherlands in the first knock-out round of the World Cup and was part of Mexico’s Olympic gold medal team at London 2012.

His agent, Mario Ordiales, has confirmed Aquino will be playing his football elsewhere this season, saying: “There is interest from outside Spain and one club in particular is at a very advanced stage in the negotiations.” (Scotsman)

Rangers ‘may give fans Ibrox guarantee’

THE board at Rangers could be set to provide fans of the club with a guarantee that Ibrox will not be sold.

According to the Sunday Post, the board are keen to see season ticket sales increase ahead of the start of the season, and believe that guaranteeing the future of the stadium could encourage more fans to buy their tickets.

Commons in fitness battle ahead of KR clash

CELTIC attacker Kris Commons is expected to be fit for his side’s crucial Champions League tie with KR Reykjavik on Tuesday after picking up a thigh injury in a friendly yesterday.

Commons scored in the 1-1 draw with Dynamo Dresden, before being substituted before half-time.

Celtic hold a one-goal advantage over the Icelandic side ahead of the second leg, which will be played at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium. (BBC)

Motherwell move to re-sign Ojamma

STUART McCall is reportedly keen to bring Estonian attacker Henrik Ojamma back to Fir Park.

23-year-old Ojamma left Motherwell for Legia Warsaw - potential Champions League opponents for Celtic - last season, but has fallen out of favour at the Polish champions.

Motherwell are considering a loan move for the attacker whom they sold to Legia for £300,000 last summer, according to The Sun. (Sun)

Dundee United sign up Mario Bilate

JACKIE McNamara has hailed the signing of Dutch striker Mario Bilate on a two-year contract.

McNamara said: “Mario has a very good pedigree and he comes very highly recommended. I spoke to a couple of ex-teammates from over there in Holland… they said he’s a very good player and if I could get him I should.”

Bilate scored 18 goals in 88 games at Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch second division. (Various)

Stevie May to return to Saints side for Swiss clash

ST Johnstone striker Stevie May will start his side’s Europa League clash with Luzern on Thursday, according to manager Tommy Wright.

Wright said: “Stevie May will play against Lucerne. I already have my team and I know who’s in it. Hopefully he’ll cause them problems.”
