Stubbs is new Hibs front-runner

FORMER Celtic defender Alan Stubbs has been installed as the new frontrunner for the vacant managerial post at Easter Road.

Hibs have been linked with a number of candidates, including Stuart McCall and ex-Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, but Stubbs - current reserve team coach at Everton - has been given permission to talk to the Easter Road hierarchy about the post.

Reid desperate for McCall to remain at Fir Park

MOTHERWELL youngster Craig Reid has begged Stuart McCall to stay at Fir Park, after seeing him linked with a move to Hibernian.

Reid, who scored the last-gasp goal that saw the Steelmen leapfrog Aberdeen into second on the final day of the season, said: “That’s what happens with success, you are going to get linked with other jobs.

“The manager has done great with the budget he’s had to work with.

“He’s a good manager and he’s going to get linked with other jobs.Hopefully we can hold on to him for longer because it’s been great working with him.” (Evening Times)

Ludogorets Razgrad eye Mackay-Steven swoop

BULGARIAN champs Ludogorets Razgrad are contemplating a move for Dundee United winger Gary Mackay-Steven, according to reports.

The Tannadice side could let the Caithness-born midfielder leave the club if he refuses to commit himself to more than just another 12 months with the Tangerines, and Ludogorets could capitalise if so.

The Bulgarian side have won the A Group for the past three years, despite being founded just 13 years ago and having worked their way up through the league system.

Brown-Collins history no problem, says Deila

THE appointment of John Collins as Ronny Deila’s No 2 at Celtic will not have an effect on captain Scott Brown, the Norwegian coach has said.

Brown was one of a number of players who went to Rod Petrie’s house to complain about Collins’ handling of the Hibs team during his tenure at Easter Road.

But Deila is adamant that any history will not disrupt the Hoops, adding: “Scott is in Miami on holiday and I called him. Of course, I asked him about John but, as Scott said, it has been many years now and he is a professional, a little older and maybe brighter as well. It’s not going to be any problem. I’m the manager and it’s Scott and me who are going to have the most important dialogue.

“I think this is a much bigger thing for other people than it is for John and Scott.” (The Scotsman)
