Queen of the South striker Nicky Clark will be subject to a bid by Rangers as interest in the 37-goal forward intensifies. The 21-year-old, who has scored more goals than any other player in Britain’s senior leagues, is also being watched by Derby County, Sheffield United, Motherwell and Aberdeen.

Meanwhile, Rangers are handing a trial to versatile Argentinian defender Cristian Trombetta. Released by Mexican outfit Jaguares de Chiapas, the 25-year-old would be available to Rangers under their current transfer embargo, though they will be unable to register him until September 1. The 6ft 2in left back can also play in central defence. (The Sun, Daily Express)

Don’t bring alcohol back to stadiums - Davy Wilson

Former Rangers winger Davy Wilson has urged authorities not to introduce alcohol back into football in Scotland. Responding to suggestions from Celtic chief Peter Lawwell that the law could be changed, Wilson warned against considering the idea, citing trouble at the U17s cup final between Rangers and Celtic at Firhill earlier this week as a reminder of what trouble such a move could bring. The 60s Rangers legend said: “Any fan involved in those scenes - Rangers or Celtic - should be banned. And to think they’re talking about bringing alcohol back at stadiums.” (Daily Record)

Derek McInnes slams ‘disrespectful’ pundits

Derek McIness has criticised football pundits who mocked John Brown’s appointment as Dundee manager. Suggestions that Brown lacked experience for an SPL post, and jokes about his infamous address on the Ibrox steps to Rangers fans, have been labelled as “disgraceful” by McInnes, who says his former Rangers team-mate has now been “vindicated”.

He said: “THe disrespect he was shown was unfair to say the least. The people [on the radio] were making sarcastic commetns and snide jokes. They were guilty of pretty shoddy journalism in my opinion.” (Daily Record)
