‘Lennon leaving was a shock’, says Mulgrew

CELTIC midfielder Charlie Mulgrew has admitted his surprise at learning that Neil Lennon had left the club.

Mulgrew told the Record: “It came as a shock to me – I really didn’t see it coming. But I’m sure Neil made the right decision for himself and I wish him all the best. He was great for me and the team.

“He did a great job here. I thank him for that and hopefully he does okay in the future. I’ll always be thankful for him bringing me here and what he did for me.” (Record)

Stevie May wants to stay, says Wright

ST Johnstone boss Tommy Wright has restated his intention to sign striker Stevie May to a new long-term deal, and dismissed reports that the Scotland under-21 ace is looking to leave Perth.

May, 21, is out of contract in 12 months’ time, and Wright said that the club and player are keen to do a deal to keep him at McDiarmid Park.

Wright said: “I’ve spoken to Stevie and he’s reiterated he wants to stay. We’ve no idea where this story has come from.” (Express)

Boyd back in the groove after Rangers deal

RANGERS striker Kris Boyd has revealed that his spells in Turkish and American football were blighted by inconsistency, but claims he is back to his best.

Boyd said: “I was the cause of my own downfall. Once I was out of the team, instead of knuckling down I just waited for the manager to put me back in, rather than showing I deserved it.

“The penny dropped when I went to Turkey then America. I knew scoring a goal in the first 10 minutes wasn’t enough to guarantee a start the next week. It took going to Kilmarnock to really enjoy football again and get myself in a condition to compete for 90 minutes.” (Record)

Moyes in talks with Turkish giants

FORMER Manchester United and Everton manager David Moyes has held talks with Galatasaray over their vacant managerial post.

The 51-year-old Scot was let go by Manchester United before the end of his first season in charge, and had been linked with the Celtic job before Ronny Deila was named as manager.

Galatasaray confirmed reports that the Scot has been in Istanbul to meet president Unal Aysal, but described the talks as merely an exchange of ideas and said that German coach Joachim Löw and USA boss Jürgen Klinsmann are their top targets. (Scotsman)

Dundee United keen to bring back Good

DUNDEE United manager Jackie McNamara is hopeful that Australian defender Curtis Good will return to Tannadice for a second spell on loan from Newcastle United.

McNamara told the Courier: “The talks with Curtis have been positive and we are actively seeking to bring him back to the club

“Newcastle are waiting to see what is happening with their squad but I would say that we are positive on that score.” (Courier)

Gordon quits Ross County after contract mix-up

ROSS County defender Ben Gordon has quit the Dingwall side, just over a week after manager Derek Adams revealed that the stopper had signed a new contract.

It is believed that Gordon put his name to a “letter of intent” which signalled he was happy with the terms being offered, rather than actually agreeing to re-sign.

Gordon said: “After a lot of consideration, I won’t be extending my contract with the club. I need to be playing in England in terms of advancing my career and also in terms of consideration towards my family, although I really enjoyed my year with Ross County.” (BT Sport/PA)
