Celtic mull over move for Bolton starlet

Bolton Wanderers and former Real Madrid player Marcos Alonso is a target for Celtic. The left-sided player, who can play in both defence and midfield, is reportedly seeking a move away after three years at the Reebok Stadium. Premiership sides Stoke City and West Ham are also reported to be interested in the 22-year-old, who is Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso’s stepbrother. (Daily Mail)

Nicky Law considering Rangers move

Motherwell midfielder Nicky Law praised Rangers’ “great history” as he invited a bid from the Ibrox club, while refusing to rule out the possibility of signing a contract extension with Motherwell. The Englishman is out of contract in the summer but has opened preliminary talks with Stuart McCall over extending his stay at Fir Park.

Law said: “Rangers are a massive club, whatever division they are in. They have a great history and it’s always flattering to have your name linked with these huge clubs, but that’s all it is - just flattery.”

He added: “At the minute I’m at Motherwell and I’ll consider offers from them as well.” (Daily Express)

Arsenal to opt for Victor Wanyama over Alex Song

Arsenal are set to ste up their pursuit of Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama after rejecting pleas from Alex Song to return to the Gunners. Song moved to Barcelona last summer in a £15 million deal, but has struggled to break into the first team. However, Arsene Wenger will move for Wanyama and make a bid fro around £10 million. Allan McGregor a World Cup doubt with wrist injury

Allan McGregor could miss Scotland’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers after suffering a suspected wrist fracture. The former Rangers goalkeeper was warming up for current club Besiktas ahead of a match with Trabzonspor when he felt a sharp pain in his wrist, and was replaced before the start of the game. It is feared that he will miss Gordon Strachan’s squad to face Wales and Serbia. (Daily Express)

John Yorkston optimistic despite HMRC wind-up order

John Yorkston insisted that Dunfermline will survive after it emerged that HMRC have issued a wind-up petition.

Despite talks aimed at negotiation a payment plan over a £50,000 debt due last Friday, HMRC have issued a write to the East End Park club. A fruther £84,000 is due in the next few days, which, if an agreement cannot be reached over payment, may result in the club’s liquidation.

But Yorkston remained optimistic, saying: “I’m hoping we’re in a happier situation this week. You can never be confident unless you cross the t’s and dot [the] i’s but I’m hopeful.” (Daily Record)
