Advocaat drops interest in van Dijk

SUNDERLAND boss Dick Advocaat has dropped his interest in Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Black Cats have been linked with a move for the Dutch star since the January transfer window but the Parkhead side are in no rush to sell the £10 million-rated centre-half who still has two years on his contract.

Advocaat is now targeting Zenit St Petersburg defender Nicolas Lombaerts. (Daily Record)

Neilson confident of Oshaniwa move

HEARTS boss Robbie Neilson is confident he can conclude his chase for Nigerian defender Juwon Oshaniwa this week.

The left-back has agreed a move to Tynecastle from Israeli side Ashdod but his entry to Scotland has been delayed by visa issues.

Neilson said: “It’s moving all the time. It takes time to get someone into the country – you can’t just pick up the phone and bring them over. There’s a process that has to be gone through and you have to respect that as well, but hopefully it will be at some point this week.” (Daily Express)

Rangers eye Wigan pair

RANGERS boss Mark Warburton is poised to snap up Wigan’s James Tavernier and Martyn Waghorn.

The Ibrox club are eyeing a move for 23-year-old right-back Tavernier and target man Waghorn, after earlier raiding the League One club for Irish defender Rob Kiernan.

Rangers are also running the rule over Hearts kid Jason Holt, 22. (Daily Record)

United poised to snap up Mckay

DUNDEE United want to sign striker Billy Mckay from Wigan Athletic.

The 26-year-old striker hasn’t settled at the English League One club since moving there in January from Caley Thistle and would welcome a return to the Scottish Premiership.

United boss Jackie McNamara is in the market for a striker after selling Nadir Ciftci to Celtic last week for £1.5 million and is also set to hand a trial to Dutch superstar Wesley Sneijder’s younger brother Rodney. (The Sun)

Taxman probes St Mirren

ST MIRREN are being investigated by HMRC over their failure to pay the minimum wage – and other Scottish clubs are in the sights of the taxman.

Officers from HMRC have written to the club asking for details of the £1-a-week deal signed by Kieran Doran when he was 16 and still at school, and are seeking answers before the end of the month.

Doran’s case has been championed by PFA Scotland lawyer Liam O’Donnell, MSP Chic Brodie and Willie Smith of campaigning group realgrassroots.co.uk. (Daily Record)
