Ally McCoist placed on gardening leave

Ally McCoist’s three-and-a-half year reign as Rangers boss has come to an end after the club confirmed he has been put on gardening leave.

It was announced last Monday that the 52-year-old had handed in his resignation but McCoist was adamant when he spoke to the press on Friday that he would see out the 12-month notice period of his contract.

But he lasted just two days more before his time in charge of the Glasgow giants was brought to an end. New chief executive Derek Llambias’ first task will now be to lead the search for the 14th man to have managed the club. (Scotsman)

John Brown: Board will pay for letting McCoist go

Rangers legend John Brown has blasted the Rangers board for deciding to dispense with manager Ally McCoist, who has been placed on gardening leave. Brown has been a vocal critic of various incarnations of the Rangers hierarchy since the club was placed in administration more than two years ago.

“It looks like the board are trying to do this to take the heat off with the AGM in mind, but Ally is a Rangers legend.

“He has been treated really badly since the current people came into Ibrox. The board will get slaughtered at the AGM.” (The Scottish Sun)

Ally McCoist’s ‘relief’ at Ibrox exit

Ally McCoist will be a relieved man after his three-and-a-half year reign at Rangers came to an end last night - that’s the view of two Rangers legends and friends of McCoist. Andy Goram, the club’s former goalkeeper, said: “It’s a sad day, but Ally will be relieved.

“Coisty steered the ship and brought Rangers through some unbelievably hard times. It’s just a shame it’s come to this.”

Meanwhile, ex-Ibrox forward Derek Johnstone said: “I listened to Ally last Friday at his press conference, and I think it was a weight off his mind when he handed in his notice. He was smiling and looked more refreshed.” (The Scottish Sun)

Jackie McNamara says Stuart Armstrong will not be cheap

Stuart Armstrong, the Dundee United midfielder being reportedly monitored by Celtic, will not leave Tannadice cheaply, according to manager Jackie McNamara. Armstrong scored the winner in yesterday’s game with Celtic in Dundee, and McNamara, who compared him to German World Cup star Thomas Muller, is determined to hold on to Armstrong in next month’s transfer window.

But, McNamara said he would still consider selling him. He said: “If the right offer came in, I’m sure the chairman and the rest of the board would look at it. But the most important thing is to keep them here, let them progress and learn.” (Various)

John Guidetti’s Celtic place under threat

CELTIC manager Ronny Deila looks set to drop John Guidetti after the on-loan striker again failed to score in yesterday’s 2-1 defeat by Dundee United.

Deila said: “We have big competition in the team – we need all the strikers we have,” Deila said after a result which saw United go second in the table, four points behind the champions. “We play with the players we think are the best to win games.

“There is one thing you have to remember with John Guidetti: he hadn’t played football for two years before he came here. He started very well and now he has had a little dip.” (Scotsman)

Emilio Izaguirre set to leave Celtic

Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre is set for the chop at Parkhead - because Ronny Deila thinks he isn’t good enough for the club. The defender is considered by the club’s coaches to be wasteful in forward positions and inadequate defensively. Graeme Shinnie, who plays for Inverness, is thought to be among the club’s top targets for the January transfer window. Izaquirre, a Honduran international, is tied to the club until 2017.
