Allan McGregor ‘got stuck right into Craig Whyte’

FORMER Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot has revealed that Allan McGregor led players in verbally attacking Craig Whyte after he put the club into administration.

Broadfoot told The Sun: “We were all told the players needed to take a pay cut or people would start losing their jobs. That started an argument. But, honestly, Allan McGregor was brilliant.

“He got stuck right into Whyte and the administrators and spoke on behalf of everyone else in the team. It was a brave thing to do… but he grabbed the bull by the horns.” (Sun)

Hearts: Locke could be out as Budge set to take over

GARY Locke may be sacked as Hearts manager this summer, as Edinburgh businesswoman Ann Budge is set to become the new majority shareholder in the club.

According to The Sun, Budge has drawn up a shortlist for the managerial post, which includes Craig Levein and Peter Houston.

Budge is set to take on the shares of UKIO Bankas and UBIG, as well as signing a deal guaranteeing a fan takeover within the next five years. (Sun / Scotsman)

Dave King called to spell out Rangers plan

DAVE King should outline his plans for investment in Rangers in order to get the approval of the club’s fans, according to former chairman Alistair Johnston.

Johnston said: “The problem right now is that people don’t really know what he is willing to do. Dave needs to be more transparent by saying: “Look, if this happens, I’ll do this, this, and this.”

Johnstone also called for season ticket holders to be given shares in the club. (Mail)

Tony Watt set for Celtic return

CELTIC striker Tony Watt looks set to rejoin the club next season after a year in Belgium with SK Lierse.

Manager Neil Lennon said: “Tony will be back in my plans. The reason for sending him away was to get games under his belt.

“He’s playing well and scoring goals, but he’s our player and he’ll be coming back. I thought a year away would let him realise what he had here and hopefully the penny has dropped.” (Record)

Hibs’ Watmore ‘like Jinky or Matthews’, says Butcher

TERRY Butcher has compared on-loan Hibernian midfielder Duncan Watmore to football legends Jimmy ‘Jinky’ Johnstone and Sir Stanley Matthews.

Butcher said: “You expect to see him in black and white, wearing the long sleeves, just like Stanley Matthews… he reminds me of someone like that, maybe Jinky Johnstone.

“He likes to get to have a go at people. He’s a throwback, which is great, and I’m glad he’s here because he gives us that outlet.” (Express)

Celtic boss Lennon unfazed by Aberdeen rise

NEIL Lennon believes that Aberdeen can become a legitimate force in Scottish football - while pointing out the gulf in points between the Dons and Celtic.

Lennon said: “Is it unrealistic to expect Aberdeen to challenge for the title next season? I don’t know.

“All I am saying is I am looking at the league table, we are in February and we are 21 points clear.” (Sun)
