Robert Mancini praises Celtic’s John Guidetti

ROBERTO Mancini insists misfiring Celtic striker John Guidetti will recapture his form, but he’s desperately hoping his protege won’t do it against his Internazionale side this week.

The former Manchester City manager is a huge fan of the Swedish youngster and handed him his City debut in 2010. But, after an initial hot scoring burst when he first arrived on loan with the Scottish champions, the goals have alarmingly dried up for the 22-year-old – he has now gone ten games in a row without a goal. Inter will travel to Glasgow for this week’s Europa League game in the middle of a poor run of form themselves and sit in the middle of Serie A.

However, ahead of their final game today at Atalanta before they face Celtic, Mancini insisted he still believes in Guidetti, who he also tried to sign for Inter as a teenager... he just hopes he doesn’t bounce back to form against the Italians.

Mancini said: “I love John Guidetti because he is a good guy. He was a young player when we were both at Manchester City but he was a fantastic talent. He had a lot of injuries when he was with me but I hope that he has now recovered from what happened.

“John can go to the very top if his physical condition stays OK. He is a fantastic player and a quality striker, he is strong and he scores a lot of goals.

“He is good with his feet, he is skilful. I like John a lot. He is a good player. I hope John does not come back to haunt me, but I hope he plays in these two games. I want him to score goals and have a lot of success in his career – but not against Inter!”
