QPR boss Harry Redknapp targets Celtic striker Gary Hooper

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has suggested he will make a January move for Celtic’s English striker Gary Hooper.

Hooper, who a few days ago was linked with a move to Italian giants Juventus, has caught the eye of Queens Park Rangers who are fighting to stay in England’s top division.

The London club have been monitoring a number of striking options including Nicolas Anelka, but it seems they have been thwarted in their efforts to bring the French veteran to Loftus Road, leaving Hooper as a likely target to add to their strike force.

Harry Redknapp said: “Teams think they can screw you into the ground because you are desperate. They know you don’t want to get relegated.”

But dealing in the market in Scotland, albeit with the Parkhead club who don’t want or need to sell, would be simpler than trying to prise a player from English rivals.

“Whoever you bring has to be the right type, the right kind to get us out of the situation we are in.”

The Celtic striker took his goal tally to 15 goals this season after scoring two in a fine display yesterday against Ross County.
