Paddy Power bait Rangers fans with tweet as they highlight lengthening odds on Celtic's ten-in-a-row chances

Bookmakers Paddy Power have baited Rangers fans on Twitter by joking that “zombies” have descended on Celtic Park to take the Scottish Premiership title trophy.

The gag goes back to 2012 when Rangers suffered a liquidation event, which led supporters of their rivals to insist the club had died and the rebirth of the Ibrox club, and their supporters, were now the “undead”.

The tweet read: “With Rangers now the favourites to win the Scottish Premiership, the Zombies have descended on Celtic Park to raid the trophy cabinet.” It also featured an image of two actors dressed as Rangers-supporting zombies.

Steven Gerrard’s side lead their Glasgow neighbours by nine points in the title race. Celtic have two games in hand, but their chances of reaching ten-in-a-row are starting to diminish with Neil Lennon’s side stuck in a funk.

Positive results against Lille and Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-final appeared to have alleviated the problems at Parkhead after three games without victory, including a meek loss to Rangers in the first Old Firm derby clash of the season.

However, they have since come back down to earth with a bump, losing 4-1 to a heavily undermanned Sparta Prague side at home, further increasing the pressure on their manager.

On the same night Rangers lamented a 3-3 draw with Portuguese giants Benfica after leading 3-1 late in the game, leaving Gerrard’s men the popular pick to win this season’s Scottish crown.

That is reflected in the latest odds, which Paddy Power posted under their zombies tweet. Rangers are odds-on favourites at 4/9, while Celtic’s odds have been pushed out to 17/10.
