Hughton has been under pressure of late, but the siege was lifted somewhat yesterday when Norwich beat Hull in the Premiership with a late winner. It is believed that Hughton must keep Norwich out of the bottom three to keep his job safe.

Yesterday, Lennon dismissed reports as speculation. “Norwich won today so I’m delighted for Chris,” said Lennon. “I think he’ll be safe for another while. He’s doing a good job there. I cannot help the speculation, I’m flattered, but he’s a good man and a good manager in that job so good luck to him.”

Lennon also stated that talk about Celtic being linked to a move for Robert Snodgrass, the Norwich and Scotland midfielder, was not something he could stop and nor would he give it credence by talking about it. “I’m going to get linked with a lot of players but I’m not going to talk about players who are contracted to other clubs.”

Kris Commons spoke about the danger of Lennon being targeted by another club. “It’s probably the crunch time of the season where there is going to be ins and outs with managers of teams not performing well. Our manager is certainly one of the best in the country so he is going to be linked with many more [jobs].”

Anthony Stokes got red-carded towards the end of this match, but Lennon revealed he would break his policy of fining a player who is sent off. “I understand why the referee gave him a red card but I won’t be punishing him. He made a genuine attempt at the ball.”
