Maccabi are hoping to steal a march on the competition by contacting him for talks about a possible loan move in January, with views to making it permanent in the summer.

Haifa boss Aleksandar Stanojevic said: “We will speak with Beram to ask him if he wants to come back. The player’s agent is already in Israel and we are talking with him. We are told he has not ruled out a return here.”

Kayal has yet to begin talks on a new contract at Celtic and it has not been confirmed whether he remains part of manager Ronny Deila’s future plans.
