Henderson, who has made 15 appearances for the Hoops this season, scoring once in the process, is currently in Austria with the Scotland Under-19 squad.

It is understood Ronny Deila has given Rosenborg the go-ahead to take the midfielder on loan - but an injury picked up by Nir Bitton on international duty may see Henderson remain in Glasgow for cover.

The Livingston-born midfielder, who joined Celtic from Hearts in 2008 as a 12-year-old, is set to discuss the move with Rosenborg representatives in the next day or so according to the Daily Record.

But Troillongan head coach Kåre Ingebrigtsen has refused to shed light on the proposed move, saying: “I can’t comment right now on players coming in or out the club.”

Celtic have had dealings with Rosenborg in the past, with defender Mikael Lustig joining the Hoops from the Norwegians in 2012, while former Parkhead favourite Harald Brattbakk had three spells with the club.

Vidar Riseth also had two stints at the Trondheim outfit.
