Scottish Cup: Kris Commons gets early holiday

CELTIC midfielder Kris Commons is relishing his early holiday in a bid to shake off an ankle injury ahead of the William Hill Scottish Cup final.

Commons was one of several Celtic players handed a break after they clinched the SPL title with a 4-1 victory over Inverness on Sunday.

The Scotland international has been playing through an ankle injury in recent weeks and is hoping to swap his daily dose of painkillers for some sunshine.

Commons said: “It’s come at a good time with picking up the ankle injury that’s been bugging me for a couple of weeks now.”

Manager Neil Lennon will give other players a break next week, with Commons hoping to be fighting fit for the Hampden clash against Hibernian on 26 May.

“I’ve been getting through the games and just managing it on a day-to-day basis,” he said. “Hopefully this break in the sunshine will ease the pain and ease the swelling and I can feel as fit as I should be.”
