Prince William and Kate Middleton pay Dundee a royal visit

Today the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have paid their first royal visit to Dundee, sparking a great deal of excitement on social media. The Earl and Countess of Strathearn, as they’re known in Scotland, began their visit at the Dundee Rep theatre. William and Kate plan to meet with several youth groups in the city as well as stopping off at the Abertay University and the RRS Discovery. Dundee-based Twitter users have called the pair “humble” and “engaged” after meeting them.

Talk Talk boss held to ransom after cyber attack

Talk Talk chief executive Dido Harding confirmed earlier today that she has received an email demanding a ransom after a sustained cyber attack on the company’s website last night. Harding stressed that it is unclear whether the email is a legitimate demand or a hoax.

The financial data of the phone, internet and TV provider’s four million UK customers may have been stolen during the incident. Talk Talk have faced harsh criticism via social media today, with many users calling for the company to be held to account.

Footballer Kris Commons apologises for furious outburst

Celtic FC midfielder Kris Commons has issued a public apology after his outburst during the Molde v Celtic match yesterday. Commons was caught on camera in a shouting match with his own team’s management after their decision to substitute him in the later stages of the game.

In his statement today the player said: “I was very frustrated at how the night had gone. However, I did not handle this in the right way. My frustration at losing games and my desire to win will never change.” The general consensus on social media is that Commons was simply showing his passion for the game and did not need to apologise for his actions.

English votes for English laws passed by Westminster

Last night the House of Commons passed the controversial plans for English votes for English laws (Evel), meaning that non-English MPs can no longer vote on any decision relating only to England. Although the opposition warned against the move, the plans were passed by 312 ‘for’ votes to 270 ‘against’. Many Scottish independence supporters, MPs and social media users feel that David Cameron’s decision to push ahead with Evel will ultimately mean the downfall of the union as Scottish MPs will be made to feel like second class citizens in Parliament.

Adele releases first single in three years

Multi-award winning solo artist Adele released brand new single Hello today, taken from her highly anticipated upcoming album 25. The singer’s last single, in October 2012, was James Bond theme Skyfall and her last album, 21, came out the year before in January 2011. Adele’s latest haunting ballad has been welcomed with open arms by fans.
