Leigh Griffiths: Lennon looking at ‘other options’

CELTIC manager Neil Lennon has warned Wolves that he is also pursuing targets other than Leigh Griffiths, as the saga over the former Hibs striker continues.

Lennon said: “We do have other options for similar positions anyway. I’m not saying the move is dead but we do have others in mind.”

Wolves are reportedly holding out for a million-pound bid for Scotland international Griffiths, who is their top scorer this season. (Various)

Peterborough end May interest

ST Johnstone star Stevie May looks set to remain in Perth, after Peterborough ended their attempts to sign the striker.

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry said: “We won’t be revisiting the subject again this window because that’s several bids we’ve had turned down. That’s their prerogative.”

Peterborough offered £500,000 for the 21-year-old, which was rejected out of hand by the McDiarmid Park side. (Mail)

Riordan on trial in Carlisle

FORMER Hibernian striker Derek Riordan has begun training at Carlisle United, as the 31-year-old looks for his first club since late 2012.

Carlisle manager Graham Kavanagh said: “We have had (Riordan) in to train - I want to have a look at him.

“We are going to have a look at as many as we can, especially those out of contract.” (Scotsman)

Rangers fans groups want Wallace answers

RANGERS CEO Graham Wallace is set to face questions on the future of Lee Wallace when he meets with supporters’ representatives later today.

Drew Robertson of the Rangers Supporters Association said: “Selling Lee would be almost an admission that the finances are not in great shape.

“If they do sell him, they will never convince anybody that it was anything other than a financial necessity. If they do sell I don’t think anyone expects them to bring anyone else in.” (Mail)

Scotland face fight for Southampton’s Gallagher

THE national side could face a serious battle to keep hold of Southampton’s Sam Gallagher, after the Southampton striker starred in his side’s draw with Arsenal on Tuesday.

Gallagher was born in Devon, but has been capped four times by Scotland under-19s.

The striker has drawn praise from coach Mauricio Pochettino after his role in the Arsenal game, which followed the prospect’s first senior goal in the weekend’s FA Cup tie with Yeovil. (Record)

Nacho Novo in St Mirren talks

FORMER Rangers striker Nacho Novo is in training with St Mirren with a view to making a return to the Scottish top flight.

Buddies boss Danny Lennon said: “I have invited (Novo) in for a couple days training so we’ll see how that goes. He’s got good experience.”

Novo is a free agent after leaving Morton, so he does not necessarily have to be signed within the transfer window. (Sun)

Celtic 4-0 Kilmarnock

Fraser Forster equalled Celtic’s clean-sheet record which stretches back to 1922 as the Hoops cantered to an easy 4-0 victory over an under-par Kilmarnock at Celtic Park in the SPFL Scottish Premiership. Joe Ledley, Lee Ashcroft (OG), Charlie Mulgrew and Amido Balde scored the goals for the hosts, while the visitors rarely threatened and were only spared a more humiliating final scoreline by some poor finishing, good luck and solid goalkeeping by Craig Samson.

Hearts 2-1 St Mirreny

Hearts won consecutive matches for the first time this season as they came from behind to beat St Mirren 2-1 at Tynecastle in the SPFL Scottish Premiership. Steven Thompson fired the Buddies ahead in the first minute (the quickest goal of the season) but Callum Paterson’s quick-fire reply changed the match and, after Marc McAusland was sent off in the second half, Jamie Hamill scored from the penalty spot to give Gary Locke’s side a rare three-points.
