Motherwell ‘to seek answers over ref decisions’ after Celtic penalties

Motherwell have assured fans they will seek answers over refereeing decisions after being hit with a second controversial penalty against Celtic.

The Fir Park side were two minutes from ending Celtic’s 65-game unbeaten domestic run on Wednesday night when Willie Collum pointed to the spot after Callum McGregor went down following a collision with Andy Rose.

The penalty was converted by Scott Sinclair, who was branded a ‘cheat’ by the home fans after the incident which led to Celtic’s spot-kick and a red card for Cedric Kipre during Sunday’s Betfred Cup final.

Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson refused to comment on the decision or the referee after the 1-1 draw but Rose claimed McGregor ‘ran into me and flopped over’.

Chief operating officer Alan Burrows backed his manager’s stance and promised to seek feedback in a calm manner.

Burrows wrote on Twitter: “There’s a lot of angry fans getting in touch, and I totally understand the frustrations. It’s a time for cool heads and dignity; the manager again showed his complete class.

“Everyone’s instant reaction is to go crazy, but I assure fans we are in constant dialogue with relevant parties, expressing our views via proper channels and asking for feedback. That all said, another fighting, spirited performance from our lads; defying the odds massively.”

Motherwell have a third meeting with Celtic in a week when they take on the Ladbrokes Premiership leaders on Saturday and Robinson promised another battling display.

He told MFC TV: “We get another chance at it, another nice easy one in front of 50,000 at Parkhead. But, listen, the one thing I can guarantee is we’ll be up for it, we will be totally prepared for it, and we certainly won’t lie down.”
