Ki crowned Korean Footballer of the Year

Celtic midfielder Ki Sung-yueng has been named Korean Footballer of the Year.

The 22-year-old beat last year’s winner, Lee Dong-Gook, to the award after picking up the most votes from his nation’s sports writers and technical officials.

Ki, who has 44 caps for South Korea, has netted six goals for Celtic this season and was on the scoresheet in Sunday’s 2-0 win over St Johnstone in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Meanwhile, Ki’s club-mate Victor Wanyama is desperate to make his Old Firm debut next week after being forced to look on from the sidelines the last time Celtic faced Rangers.

The midfielder was an unused substitute at Ibrox as Neil Lennon’s men crashed to a 4-2 defeat against the Scottish champions in September.

The 20-year-old Kenya international said: “It would be nice to play because I didn’t get off the bench last time. It’s the kind of game every player wants to play in. I think the fans have shown very good support to us and myself. They are always behind us and I am very happy to have fans like that.”
