'Ambitious': Former Celtic hitman lands 16th club of career ahead of huge Scottish Cup clash
Striker could face Hearts next month
Former Celtic striker Cillian Sheridan is back in Scottish football after agreeing a deal with Brechin City.
The 35-year-old, who was most recently with Queen’s Park, has joined the Highland League leaders as they bid to win promotion back to the senior set-up of the SPFL. They are currently seven points clear of second-placed Brora Rangers, who have played two games fewer.
Sheridan has been capped three times by Republic of Ireland and started his career at Celtic. Brechin will be his 16th the club of his career after spells at Motherwell, Plymouth Argyle, St Johnstone, CSKA Sofia, Kilmarnock, APOEL, Omonoia, Jagelliona Bialystock, Wellington Phoenix, Ironi Kiryat Shmona, Wisla Plock, Dundee, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Queen’s Park. He has scored more than 100 goals in 400 matches.

Sheridan said: “I’m excited to join Brechin City and play a part in their ambitious journey. The club’s vision and drive resonate with me, and I can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success.”
Brechin City manager Patrick Cregg - a fellow Irishman and ex-Hibs and Falkirk midfielder - said of the move: “We’re delighted to get Cillian in. He has experience at the highest levels of football, coupled with his professionalism and leadership, will be invaluable both on and off the pitch.
“He’s hungry to do well for the club and is exactly the type of player who embodies our vision. He will be a great addition to our group and will help the young players as well with his experience - we are looking forward to working with him.”
Sheridan could be involved for Brechin in their glamour Scottish Cup fourth round clash, which is due to take place over the weekend of January 18.
