Sydney FC announced on Friday that the 37-year-old had “agreed to finalise details on a contract with the Sky Blues”, as representatives from the club flew out to Italy to secure the former Juventus man’s signature.
The 37-year-old’s representative and brother Stefano Del Piero said that the deal had not been completed but that he did consider Sydney FC’s offer a “serious” one.
“Obviously things were misinterpreted,” Stefano Del Piero told Italian news agency ANSA. “We still have to properly analyse the project.
“(The offer) has not left Alessandro indifferent, we’re talking about a two-year deal.
“It’s a serious offer but that doesn’t mean everything’s decided.”
Alongside interest from the Parkhead club, Del Piero has also attracted interest from Tottenham with FC Sion also expressing an interest.
The New South Wales side said they hoped to have a deal concluded for the Italian today.
