Collum is man in middle for Old Firm clash

WilliE Collum will take charge of the Old Firm clash between Celtic and Rangers at Parkhead on 28 December.

Collum, 32, made his debut in the fixture in October last year at the same venue and awarded the visitors a controversial penalty in their 3-1 win, pointing to the spot after Celtic defender Daniel Majstorovic had tangled with Kirk Broadfoot.

Kenny Miller scored the second of his double from the spot, which ultimately took Rangers three points clear at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon said afterwards: “I think he got a couple of big decisions wrong,” while admitting that he would be seeking clarification from the Scottish Football Association over why Collum gave the penalty. “I’m not sure he saw it and I’m not sure why he has given it,” Lennon said.

The Celtic manager also felt Rangers midfielder Lee McCulloch should have been shown a second yellow card during the match. Collum received threatening phone calls to his home afterwards which he reported to the police.
