Celtic transfer deadline day deal in jeopardy after 'failed medical'

Move for Norwegian winger in doubt

Celtic's move for Norwegian winger Joel Mvuka is in doubt after the player reportedly failed his medical.

A deal had been agreed between Celtic and French side Lorient for the £3million transfer of the 23-year-old, who travelled to Glasgow on Sunday evening in anticipation of completing a deadline day transfer to the Scottish champions.

Mvuka has aspirations of breaking into the Norway World Cup squad and viewed the move to Parkhead as a chance to reignite his career, which has stalled in France after an impressive breakthrough with Bodo/Glimt.

However, according to French media outlet Ouest, the transfer is currently on hold due to issues which arose during the player's medical, with the move now in jeopardy.

As a teenager, Mvuka was forced to stop playing football for eight months due to heart irregularities.

He was eventually cleared to return to professional football after a proper diagnosis and has played consistently since, including winning titles with Bodo/Glimt in Norway and on loan at Young Boys in Switzerland.

It now remains to be seen whether Mvuka will sign for Celtic before the window closes, or if he will return to Lorient, where he has started only five matches in Ligue 1 this season.

Celtic have so far made one deadline day signing with Austrian striker Junior Adamu arriving on loan from Freiburg in deal that includes an option to buy the 24-year-old, who has scored two goals this season. Adamu’s arrival allowed Johnny Kenny to join Bolton on loan.

The club has also turned down a £25million offer from Nottingham Forest for midfielder Arne Engels. After having offers in the region of £14m and £17m rebuffed, Forest returned with a third bid for the 22-year-old Belgium midfielder. However, the Hoops have turned down the opportunity to make a significant profit on a player they bought for £11m from Augsburg in August 2024.
