Celtic to face UEFA rap for Udinese banner

UEFA have announced today that Celtic will face a hearing for the actions of their supporters during their Europa League match with Udinese last week.

The governing body has charged the Parkhead club after their supporters displayed an “offensive” banner and released

fireworks in the Stadio Friuli on Thursday evening.

Uefa’s control and disciplinary body will hear the case on January 26.

A banner reading “F*** UEFA” was unfurled before the match while several flares were set off including one which landed on the pitch.

Celtic fan Ross Connolly has been banned by the club for unfurling the banner.

He was also arrested by Italian police for allegedly assaulting a steward at the match in Udine.

The news of today’s charge comes after the club were fined for illicit chanting by UEFA during their Europa League match against Rennes.
