Celtic fan backs rivals in brother-in-law tribute

A CELTIC fan will be supporting Dundee United at the Scottish Cup clash between the two sides as a tribute to his late brother-in-law.

Dundee United-mad Steven Ellwood, a manager with William Hill, passed away last month at the age of 34, after complications following heart surgery, and his brother-in-law Stuart Bell will be in the United end at the cup tie.

Steven’s family will attend the Scottish Cup match as guests of the betting firm.

Stuart will be attending the game wearing a tangerine boiler suit to honour father-of-one Steven, while the Tannadice club are signing a number of items for auction to raise money for the British Heart Foundation charity.

A JustGiving page set up in Steven’s memory has raised £1,315 so far - almost £1,000 over its original target of £350.

And friends of the Dundee United fan paid tribute to Steven by kitting out one of the Dundee penguins outside the Overgate Centre in the City of Discovery.

Steven’s widow Karen told the Courier: “One of his friends decided to put a United strip on one of the penguins as a tribute to Steven. It is really poignant as Steven was a dedicated fan.”

Karen is also keen on holding a gathering of family and friends at Tannadice stadium to mark Steven’s love for the club.
