Beram Kayal extends Celtic contract

Celtic’s Beram Kayal has signed a new contract which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2014/5 season, it was announced this morning.

The Israeli internationalist, who could reportedly double his wages as part of the new deal, has scored two goals for the Parkhead side since signing Maccabi Haifa last summer.

Kayal said: “I’m very happy to sign this new contract with Celtic,” Kayal said. “I came to Celtic last season and I’ve enjoyed it very much. I feel at home here and I want to be at the club for a long time.

“The fans have been magnificent and I want to thank them all for their support. I will do everything for the club and the manager to achieve success.

“It was the manager who wanted me here and I want to achieve things for him, the club and all our supporters.”

Kayal has made 40 appearances for Celtic, netting two goals, and was one of their key players last season despite missing much of the campaign through injury.

Kayal, who has extended his stay by one year, was out for a three-month spell early in his Celtic career but had already made a positive impact and quickly found top form after returning on Boxing Day.

Kayal was linked with moves to the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool as his run in the team coincided with Celtic`s best spell of the season.

But he fractured his wrist in the 3-2 defeat by Inverness that ultimately cost Celtic the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title in May and missed the Scottish Cup final win over Motherwell.
