The 27-year-old, who left Forest for Celtic on a free transfer in the summer of 2011, has signed a three-year deal.

Forest bid £1.5m for the centre-back last month, but Celtic wanted more and were keen to keep him for the early stages of the Champions League.

Wilson, who won two league titles with Celtic, could make his debut on Saturday against Blackburn.

Lennon had previously admitted that the 27 year-old, who has a daughter in Nottingham, is suffering homesickness having struggled to settle in Scotland.

Wilson was in the final year of his contract with Celtic although the Parkhead club did have the option of extending his contract for another 12 months.

He told the Nottingham Forest website: “It’s nice to be back. I’m delighted to get it all sorted and I can’t wait to get started to be honest.

“I wouldn’t have left Celtic for just anyone, it had to be the right club. And no club fitted the bill better than Nottingham Forest.

“Out of everything, I have probably missed the fans the most. I love playing at the City Ground.

“I know people talk about Barcelona, this game and that game, but I just love matchdays at the City Ground.”
