QPR boss Harry Redknapp has submitted a final offer to Celtic for striker Gary Hooper, believed to be in the region of £5 million plus add-ons.

Today’s Scottish Sun reports that Redknapp has other targets in mind should his offer for the striker be rejected, but the former Tottenham boss denied that a deal with Celtic was close to being completed.

Redknapp is reported as saying last night: “The offer we’ve made is very good, especially when you consider [Hooper] is in the final year of his contract. I respect the fact he’s Celtic’s player and they are entitled to get the best possible deal.”

But he insisted: “I also don’t believe we should go higher than what we have.”

Hooper, who will miss Celtic’s Champions League qualifier with Cliftonville in Belfast tonight, is reportedly keen on a move back to England, having expressed no desire to extend his contract at Parkhead and while a move to Norwich - who are still tracking the former Scunthorpe player - would see the striker plying his trade in the Premier League, the lure of a return to London with QPR could convince him that Championship football is the right move.

Redknapp added: ““Hooper is a player I like — but there are other players of interest who we can move for.

“I’m not aware of us being close to a deal with Celtic, despite reports.

“If there’s nothing doing over the next few days then I’d be looking to move on to other targets.”

It is unknown whether the Canaries are set to match, or improve QPR’s offer for Hooper.
