The Greek striker met with manager Neil Lennon yesterday as the two sides bid to come to an agreement over the status of the 28-year-old’s contract.

Samaras has around six months left on his current deal at Parkhead, and several sides have been alerted to his availability. Atletico Madrid, Trabzonspor, and West Ham have been among some of the names reportedly interested in the striker.

Celtic are keen to keep Samaras, but also don’t want to risk losing him for free in the summer. Talks between Lennon and Samaras were described as positive, though no firm resolution is believed to have emerged.

The striker’s agent Rodger Linse said Samaras was still awaiting an offer from the club.
