Transfer add-on

Celtic’s bumper transfer receipt for full-back Jeremie Frimpong will be dente by a £3.5m payment to Manchester City as one of the add-ons built into the deal taking the dutch defender to Parkhead in 2019. (Football Insider)

Dons keeping tabs

Aberdeen are monitoring Old Firm target Thomas Robert. The Frenchman, currently at Airdrie in SPFL League One has attracted interest from both Rangers and Celtic with the latter reported to be close to a deal. However Aberdeen are monitoring talks closely and copuld be ready to take the youngster - son of Newcastle United winger Laurent – north (Daily Record).

A breach too far

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has hinted that Bongani Zungu’s breach of coronavirus regulations has effectively ended his prospects of earning a permanent move to the Scottish league leaders. The South African international’s temporary move is up at the end of the season with a £2.6m fee agreed with Amiens SC in France if Rangers want to make the move permanent.

However Zungu was one of five Rangers players to breach COVID-19 protocols last weekend and is currently isolating away from the club ahead of showdown talks with the Ibrox manager (The Scotsman)

Not a new recruit

Ex-Celtic striker Tommy Johnson has revealed he was close to joining up with the Parkhead again in a recruitment capacity. The former Aston Villa forward and Blackpool recruitment chief held talks with Parkhead chief executive Peter Lawwell but a move into Neil Lennon’s scouting system and return north was never completed (Football Insider)

Fashionable target

Oostende’s Zambian international striker Fashion Sakala has again been linked with Rangers on a pre-contract deal. The club’s sporting director Gauthier Ganaye said there had been no contact from Ibrox and is hoping to keep the forward on a new contract despite links with Lille an the English Premier League. Former Celtic target Ivan Toney is poised for a £25m move to Leicester and ex-Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers. Celtic were thought to be weighing up a move for the striker while he was at Peterbrough but ended up signing Abian Ajeti while Toney moved to Brentford. Now nine months on the forward could be set for a big-money move to join Brendan Rodgers Champions League chasing Foxes (The Sun)

Turnbull around

Celtic’s squad rebuild should be centred around midfielder David Turnbull according to pundit Michael Stewart. The former Motherwell man has been in excellent form since breaking into the Parkhead side following a summer move from Fir Park and former Hibs and Hearts midfielder Stewart believes he is the man for the future at Celtic Park.
