Football news in brief: Zubar and Jonsson set to leave Wolves

WOLVES manager Stale Solbakken has confirmed that Ronald Zubar and former Hearts utility player Eggert Jonsson can leave the English Championship club during the January transfer window.

Zubar and Jonsson have struggled to break into the Molineux team in recent weeks and Solbakken is prepared to listen to offers.

The Wolves manager said: “If the right offer comes in for Ronald, it’s a possibility that we won’t stand in the way.

“And if the right deal for him comes along, we will let Eggert go permanently.”

Matthews buoyed by rare home win

CELTIC full-back Adam Matthews is aiming to string some home wins together after the SPL champions earned a 
first league victory at Parkhead for two months when they defeated St Mirren 2-0 on Saturday.

Matthews, whose team host Ross County on Saturday, told Celtic TV’s Huddle Online: “I think we played better than we normally have done at home this season. Teams come here and make it difficult for us and so far we haven’t been able to break them down.

“But we showed we could do it against a good team and hopefully we can get a run going at home now.”

Ward returns to Bristol Rovers

BRISTOL Rovers have announced that John Ward has returned to the Memorial Stadium for a second spell as manager.

The 61-year-old, who was most recently in charge of npower League One outfit Colchester, was previously at Rovers for a three-year spell from 1993 to 1996.

The Pirates acquired Ward after sacking former Motherwell and Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee on Saturday following a 4-1 defeat at York, which left them with just one win in their last 11 games.
