But the bid to explain and placate an already angry fan-base over the training camp which preceded a positive coronavirus test result for defender Christopher Jullien, was widely criticised on social media.

David Steel: “As inspiring as sitting through 90 minutes watching the team this season.”

Tony Mcbride: “This is the equivalent of 'thoughts and prayers' after something disastrous.”

@paulmcb79: “Didn’t like the line that we have been impacted more than any other club.”

Enda Mc Elhinney: “I missed the bit where he and Lennon's resignations were offered?”

Sean Forrest: “That’s five minutes of absolute nothingness ! Propaganda rhetoric from the club as usual.”

@JoeBhoy1987: “So why has the covid crisis affected our club more than others? What specifically are our players suffering that other clubs aren't? Or is it the wheels have came off due to the arrogance and incompetence of our board and management team and that's just a convenient excuse?”

@The_Foe_Malign: “Unbelievable. Five seconds of an apology followed by five minutes of justification of why they went. An apology should be followed by the reasons why they got it wrong. This is hollow.”

They were in the minority but some responses did welcome the video.

Gary Nicholson: “Apology accepted. Everybody makes mistakes. We learn from it and move on. 10IAR still on and it will be even sweeter when we win it after the recent shenanigans.”

@CollieMcevoy: “A good statement let’s get behind the team now.”
