Ex-Rangers star believes Odsonne Edouard could have played himself out of move to 'top club'

Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd believes Odsonne Edouard may have played himself out of a move to one of football’s “top clubs” with his poor performance earlier this season.

The Frenchman has been in terrific form of late, scoring eight goals in a six-game stretch before being shut out in the midweek victory over Aberdeen.

Though that took his total to 20 goals in a campaign where his attitude has been questioned frequently. He went almost five months without scoring from open play in domestic football and manager Neil Lennon admitted the player was distracted by the speculation over his future.

Even though he’s looking back to his best, Boyd feels potential suitors would have been put off making an approach for the 23-year-old.

He said prior to Celtic’s match with Ross County: “He’s a terrific player. In terms of playing in Scotland, he’s up there with the most complete strikers.

"What I will say is this. Why has it taken him until now to perform? The top teams will be looking at that and wonder if there’s a doubt about his attitude and work rate.

“There’s no doubting his ability, but it took until January, February time for him to turn up. A lot of the top teams would look at it and question that.”

Edouard will see his contract at Celtic Park expire in the summer of 2022 and speculation is already underway as to whether his club will look to sell the striker in the next transfer window.
