It has reached the point where Lennon’s former team-mate at Parkhead Chris Sutton was questioning how the manager was going to turn the situation around.
Such is the nature of the situation there is increasing speculation as to which manager would be brought in to replace Lennon if Peter Lawwell and the Celtic board were to decide to part company with the former captain.
Ex-Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe’s name has been touted regularly and the Englishman is odds-on favourite for the position if it opens up.
In the past week the name of Gordon Strachan has been floated.
The 63-year-old was Celtic boss between 2005 and 2009, guiding the team to three Premier League titles.
Currently in a position at Dundee, Strachan has been installed as second favourite with bookmakers at 7/1 in what would be a shock move.
