Efe Ambrose set to remain with Celtic

EFE Ambrose has given Celtic a boost by insisting he is happy to stay with the club despite Premier League interest.

The 24-year-old Nigerian, who helped his country win the African Cup of Nations this year and enjoyed a fine season with the Scottish champions, was linked with a move to West Brom and Crystal Palace.

But Ambrose stressed he has no intention of quitting Parkhead. He said: “I’m very flattered by the mention that I’m wanted by a number of teams. But I am a Celtic player and I am committed to the club.

“It is always expected that after such a successful season, winning titles with your club and country, there will be reports saying you’re being watched by this club or that club. But I’m focused on helping Celtic do well this season. I believe the team can do even better than last season.”

The 28-times capped defender is to play in a special game later this month against South Africa to honour their former President Nelson Mandela. He said: “It is always a joy for me to play for my country, and it will be massive playing for Nigeria in in recognition of a great man like Nelson Mandela.”
