Copenhagen player charged in connection with incident during Celtic match as police confirm eight arrests

A footballer for FC Copenhagen has been charged in connection with an incident during last night's Europa League match against Celtic at Celtic Park.

Video footage on social media appeared to show a police officer being knocked to the ground by Michael Santos as players from the Danish side celebrated a goal scored by Pep Biel.

Police Scotland have confirmed to The Herald that the Uruguayan player was one of two men to have been charged in connection with an alleged assault.

Santos scored for the Danish side as they won 3-1 on the night to secure a 4-2 aggregate win and passage to the last 16 of the competition.

A steward who travelled with the team is also thought to have been charged in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Two men aged 26 and 42 were charged in connection with an alleged assault at Celtic Park last night.

"They have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal."

Cops also confirmed six home fans and two away supporters were arrested for minor offences.
