The 28-year-old has been the Tannadice team’s best player this season, a starring role in the weekend’s draw with Hibs the latest in a line of excellent displays.

Siegrist’s agent confirmed to the Daily Mail that Swiss goalkeeper has been watched by Celtic, albeit no offer has been forthcoming.

If the Parkhead side were to make a move they would likely face competition from the Dutch and German top-flight.

"There is interest in him from clubs in the Bundesliga and the Dutch Eredivise,” Dr Thomas Kraft told the Daily Mail.

"Celtic have also scouted him several times, that is true. But today at this moment we have no official offer from Celtic.

"Will Benjamin leave Dundee United in January? It depends on the financial situation at United.”

Kraft added: "If there was a chance to move to Celtic, then that would be a very good step for Benjamin.”

Celtic could be in the market for a new goalkeeper in January with the £5million summer signing Vasilis Barkas having failed to impress.

Neil Lennon has recently opted for Conor Hazard. The Northern Irish custodian looked suspect at times against Hearts in the Scottish Cup final but emerged the hero with two penalty saves in the shoot-out.

Siegrist, who is contracted until 2022, has continued to improve at Tannadice since joining in 2018. He put in a fine showing in the meeting between the two clubs in Dundee earlier in the campaign.
