Celtic v St Mirren: How to watch, online stream details, kick-off time, form, SPFL match odds

The game has been scheduled to take advantage of the free weekend created by the temporary suspension of the Scottish Cup, SPFL lower leagues and games outwith the Scottish football pyramid.

Rangers are not in action so Celtic will play one of the three games outstanding and have the chance to reduce the margin at the top of the league.

How to watch

Options are limited for this one and it’s club TV online streams for fans wishing to tune in to the last games of 2021. Celtic’s live coverage will be for supporters with a Pass to Paradise virtual season ticket only.

As with the Hoops’ other home matches this season, there is no other pay-per-view option available.

Highlights will be available though, on BBC Sportscene on the BBC Scotland channel at 7.30pm on Saturday evening, and again on BBC1 at 11.40pm, as well as the iPlayer.

This match sees a couple of teams with poor starts to 2021 meet at Celtic Park on the back of a positive midweek change in fortunes. Neither Celtic nor the Saints had won this year until Wednesday’s Premiership card and perhaps the Buddies were the more impressive, registering a 5-1 win on the road at Dundee United while Celtic cruised to a 2-0 win over Hamilton at Parkhead.

St Mirren have created upsets this season – and were the only side to defeat Rangers this season with a Betfred Cup win at the start of December but they meekly exited the competition last weekend before turning in their redemption performance at Tannadice.

James Forrest continues to recover from his lengthy lay-off and Christopher Jullien is definitely out with his knee injury sustained just before the turn of the year.

Odsonne Edouard made a scoring return to the team with a goal on Wednesday after being sidelined by a knee injury on top of the necessary quarantine period from the Dubai trip fall-out. Greg Taylor replaced Jeremie Frimpong on Wednesday and Scott Brown also returns to the fray after suspension for his red card against Livingston.

Who will play in goal for Celtic?

St Mirren will be without Collin Quaner and Lee Erwin but Jake Doyle-Hayes returns.

Previous Meetings

Celtic won this season’s earlier encounter 2-1 with goals from Shane Duffy and James Forrest overturning Lee Erwin’s early effort to out the Buddies ahead after only three minutes.

In every season where the sides have met on league business since 2000/01 Celtic have beaten the Paisley side by four or more goals. The excetion to the rule is season 2008/09 where the Saints turned the tables and won 4-0 to spell the end for Tony Mowbray’s reign, a defeat which began the managerial career of Neil Lennon.

St Mirren’s last win over the Parkhead side was 3-2 in the League Cup semi-final of 2013 and the Buddies last avoided defeat with a 0-0 draw in September 2018.
