Celtic transfers: What we can expect at Parkhead on deadline day
The club’s title supremacy is about to be ended by runaway Premiership leaders Rangers. That has left manager Neil Lennon on borrowed time, while chief executive Peter Lawwell will depart in July. It is apt then that loan moves will be the deals that the club looks to tie up in the final hours of the window. Celtic moved to bring Everton right-back Jonjoe Kenny in on a six-month deal late on Sunday. The 23-year-old will fill the gap created by Jeremie Frimpong’s £11.5m departure last week to Bayer Leverkusen, Kenny having spent last season in the Bundesliga set-up on loan to Schalke.
With Christopher Jullien lost to injury for the rest of the season, they will be scouting around for a centre-back on a temporary deal too after being gazumped by Liverpool on Sunday in their pursuit of Ben Davies. The club had been in talks with the left-sided Preston defender’s representatives in recent days, but the Anfield club became his destination after having a £2m offer accepted that will see Sepp Van Den Berg head in the other direction.

Hide AdThe Covid-19 situation has resulted in few big money deals being concluded down south. It means there is unlikely to be any outgoing movement with players such as Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer, who both sought summer moves. However, Olivier Ntcham is attracting interest from Marseilles, with Newcastle United also making contact about the possibility of the French midfielder going on loan. It would be a surprise if the largely out-of-favour 24-year-old spends the remainder of the season in Glasgow.
