Celtic have confirmed that a “number” of staff will put on furlough.

The club are the latest in Scottish football to take measures to keep costs low without little income being generated during the shutdown of the league.

It will likely primarily involve the non-playing staff with the Daily Record suggesting it could be in place until June.

Celtic have, in a statement, ensured that the members of staff on furlough will still receive their full salary with the club making up the difference from the scheme.

Manager Neil Lennon recently admitted that wage cuts were a possibility in the coming weeks and would be something that will be reviewed.

League rivals Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen are also making moves with regards to wages, whether it be cuts or deferrals.

A Celtic spokesperson said: “Like many organisations, due to the unprecedented challenges currently being faced, Celtic will be using the government job retention scheme available, in relation to a number of colleagues.

“At this time, Celtic will ensure that each colleague on this scheme will receive 100 per cent salary, with all other conditions and benefits remaining unchanged.

"Other colleagues will continue to work as normal to cover the club’s ongoing operational requirements.

"Celtic would like to sincerely thank each and every member of staff for all their continued efforts and their tremendous support during such a difficult time for everyone."
