Celtic 'will replace Barkas’

Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie believes his old club could bring in another goalkeeper in January to replace Vasilis Barkas. The Greek internationalist began the season as the Hoops No.1 but after a back injury ruled him out of the club’s last league game the former AEK Athens man has not been able to force his way back in, and McAvennie reckons Celtic could look for a proven No.1 during the next transfer window. Arfield a doubt for Accies

Rangers could be without midfielder Scott Arfield for thieir match against Hamilton Accies on Sunday. The Canadian internationalist is believed to have picked up a knock after coming on as a sub in the 3-3 draw with Benfica and the former Burnley man – described as the "glue in the dressing room” by Steven Gerrard could be forced to sit this game out. Liverpool eye ‘Well ace

Liverpool have had a bid accepted for Motherwell youngster Sam Campbell but the Fir Park side remains hopeful of hanging onto the 16-year-old. The defender had a trial and talks with the Reds but the Steelmen have offered him a new three-year deal and are hopeful he will choose to remain in North Lanarakshire. (Football Insider)

Gordon 'could have saved Hearts from relegation'

Michael Stewart believes Hearts might have avoided finishing bottom of the Scottish Premiership at the end of the curtailed 2019/20 season if they had signed Craig Gordon on loan in January. The veteran shot-stopper has been in fine form for the Tynecastle Park side and earned a Scotland recall. Writing in his column in the Sun Stewart said: “Daniel Stendel didn’t know Gordon and preferred to go with Joel Pereira in goal and sign the likes of Donis Avdijaj up front instead. We’ll never know if Gordon would have stopped the Jambos from going down or not but you have to think he’d have helped make a difference in the big moments.” (The Sun)

Ross blasts underperforming Hibs

Jack Ross said he was “annoyed and irritated" after watching his side gift Aberdeen two goals on Friday night. The win saw the Dons leapfrog Hibs and are now level on points with Celtic. Speaking after the game Ross said: “My players have had a lot of praise and protection from me and they need to be big enough to take some criticism. We didn’t play well enough to win the game. So, while I am usually very protective of my players, I am scathing of them tonight.” (Evening News)

Lambert in peculiar ‘Jock Stein’ blast at Elyounoussi

Ex-Celtic captain Paul Lambert launched a somewhat bizarre attack on Celtic player Mohamed Elyounoussi after he was caught checking his phone during Celtic’s 4-1 defeat to Sparta Prague. Lambert claimed the Norwegian internationalist had “let down Jock Stein”. (Daily Record)
